Lim Jia Qi Artist Profile 1.jpg

Grounded in the cultural landscape of Singapore, Lim Jia Qi’s practice reflects on how urban design, nature, and lived experience shape the collective identity of the city. Her works trace the quiet tension between the natural and the man-made, revealing how carefully curated greenery, domestic interiors, and public housing spaces become sites of memory, aspiration, and belonging.

Trained as a printmaker, Lim approaches her practice as both an artist and observer of Singapore’s ongoing transformation. By merging printmaking and painting on carved wood panels, she reimagines traditional techniques through a contemporary Singaporean lens. Her process mirrors the city’s own balance between preservation and progress, where heritage and innovation intersect, and where nature, though carefully cultivated, becomes inseparable from urban life. Through these layered surfaces, Lim captures how human presence and planned order coexist, revealing the subtle poetry of Singapore’s constructed landscapes.

Her recent solo exhibition, The Space Between (iPRECIATION, 2025), marks an evolution in her practice from depicting physical structures to capturing their emotional and cultural resonance. Through soft hues, layered surfaces, and shadow-like forms, Lim transforms familiar cityscapes into contemplative spaces that invite viewers to reflect on how Singapore’s identity is continuously shaped through its negotiation between growth, control, and care.

Lim Jia Qi Jacey (b. 1997, Singapore) graduated with a Degree in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2019. The same year, she was awarded the Young Talent Programme Solo Exhibition Prize and presented her first solo exhibition Concrete Encounters at ION Art Gallery. In 2022, she held her second solo exhibition Urban: Backyard 《都市:後院》 at iPreciation Gallery, followed by her latest solo exhibition The Space Between (2025) at iPreciation.

Lim has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs, including Spatial Narratives, a duo show with Zhang Fuming at Art Porters Gallery (2023), NEW/NOW at ART SG (2022), paper: a December selection at AC43 Gallery (2021), and Living in Still at iPreciation Gallery (2020). Her works have been collected by government agencies as well as local and overseas collectors. In addition to her art practice, Lim is an arts educator.
